Horizon plans US land connections for transpac service

Shanghai: Horizon Lines is to offer inland intermodal connections in the US when it launches its transpacific container service next month. The Five Star Express will depart Ningbo on 14 December and Shanghai on 15 December arriving in Los Angeles 26 December. "As other carriers reduce service locations and slow service speeds, US shippers continue to tell us they want fast and reliable service alternatives not only port-to-port, but inland to final destinations as well," Brian Taylor, senior vice president of international services at Horizon Lines. Horizon Lines claims it will be able offer some of the fastest inland transit times in the industry, including 15-day availability in Kansas City from Shanghai and 16-day availability in Dallas, using scheduled intermodal rail service from Los Angeles every week. The launch service is currently 60% booked and the line is aiming for 75% utilisation. [16/11/10]
