London: Peter Hinchliffe, formerly Marine Director of shipowners' body the International Chamber of Shipping, has stepped up to become Secretary General of that association and of sister body the International Shipping Federation, which represents shipowners as maritime employers. He succeeds Tony Mason who has held the position for the last four years and who is leaving the associations to pursue other interests.
Making the announcement, ICS Chairman/ISF President, Spyros M. Polemis said: "We are grateful to Tony for all his efforts in taking forward the work of ICS and ISF and representing the views of the industry over the last four years, and wish him well in his future endeavours. We are delighted to appoint Peter Hinchliffe to take over this work. Peter has many years of experience with ICS which will ensure that the essential task of representing the views of an industry whose achievements are too little recognised and understood, can be carried forward and developed further."
The membership of ICS and ISF comprises national shipowners' associations from 34 countries, representing all sectors and trades in the global industry and over 75% of the world merchant fleet. [21/06/10]
