Gjertrud Maersk seafarers test positive for COVID-19 at Ningbo port

Seven crew members onboard containership Gjertrud Maersk berthed at Ningbo have been sent to hospital after one tested positive for COVID-19 according to an official statement from China’s Ministry of Transport.

The 9,074 teu capacity vessel arrived at quayside in Ningbo on 17 March and reported suspected COVID-19 infection of seven crew members on 18 March. After the test carried out by local authorities, one of the seafarers had been diagnosed with COVID-19 and four seafarers are asymptomatic infected individuals, the other two tested negative for now.

The seven seafarers had been arranged at local hospital and are all in stable conditions. The other remaining 15 crew members are staying at the ship for further observation.

Currently, the Ministry of Transport and other relevant departments are working on the crew change plans for the ship.
