RCL names its largest vessels at Imabari

Regional Container Lines (RCL) has named two 12,000 teu boxship newbuildings, the largest vessels in its fleet.

The 12,000 teu Santi Bhum and Thanya Bhum were named at Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan on 21 October led by Dr. Jumlong Atikul, Chairman of RCL.

Attending the naming along with RCL senior management were Apisak Tantivorawong, former Minister of Finance and his wife, Bhumindr Harinsuit, Honorary Chairman of the Thai Boat Owners Association, Jiraphant Asvatanakul and executives from The Import and Export Bank of Thailand (EXIM Bank), Kazo Fujiki from the Fujiki Group and his wife.

The scrubber-fitted Santi Bhum and Thanya Bhum were ordered at cost of $115m each and have since been chartered to ZIM for a period of five years.
