Seatrade Maritime: What products and solutions does Cummins offer for maritime applications?

Olavo G Fernandes: We are very diversified. We supply engines from 6.7 litres up to 95 litres so it goes from 100 HP to five one to 5000 HP. That’s on the agent’s side, but of course, we also serve our customers.

We have around 75 certified technicians who can support service-related interventions for our customers.

We support customers on site and we stock in our main warehouses here in Dammam, Jeddah and in Riyadh.

We can also offer propulsion and gearbox so we can supply the full package to our customers, including the engine gearbox or transmission. It is a full turnkey solution that we can supply to our customers.

SM: Can you tell us about your local capabilities and investments in the region?

OGF: Lately we made a $2 million investment in a Dyno Sale in our main workshop in Dammam, where we can test the engines from 100 HP to 3600 HP. It will be part of what we call localization.

We are also investing in a training center in Riyadh, where we can train our customers on our engines, so we are doing investments in Saudi.

SM: With the growing focus on sustainability and environmental impact, could you tell us more about Cummins' solutions in this area?

OGF: Our oil engines comply with IMO standards, we comply with the NOx emissions.

Now, if we want to bring this to another level, a little bit outside of the marine segment like hydrogen electroliers and fuel cells.

We have already projects very relevant projects in Saudi Arabia in Neom.

We are a step ahead! Accelera is a new brand from Cummins’ New Power segment already launched and is an energy Technology leader committed to secure a sustainable future for the industries that keep world running.

SM: Can you tell us more about Cummins Arabia’s participation at the Saudi Maritime Congress and more about the engine that you’ve brought to the event?

OGF: It's a proportional 60-litre engine that is already used by a lot of customers here in KSA. We wanted to make a big impact and bring this 60-liter engine so that people could see it live and so we could interact with our customers for any doubts about the engine.

There is a diversification of the functions of our customers present on this event, from technicians to managers of operations, technical managers, This is an engine present in many vessels in KSA.
