Darren Shelton, CPO, FuelTrust, has been appointed as the 2nd Americas Regional Ambassador of the Global Maritime Club – an international initiative created by Seatrade Maritime.

With this appointment, the Americas gains a second Ambassador representing the Club that primarily aims to promote growth in regional maritime sectors whilst also supporting the IMO’s World Maritime Theme 2022 of ‘New technologies for greener shipping', reflecting the need to support a green transition of the maritime sector into a sustainable future, while leaving no one behind.

Commenting on his appointment, Emma Howell, Digital & Marketing Director, Seatrade Maritime – part of the Informa Markets Maritime portfolio, said: “Darren is an excellent addition to our growing number of global Club ambassadors.

“As a 26-year veteran of the maritime industry having managed multiple shipping agencies; serving as lead auditor in ISO quality management systems and most recently being tasked with driving their digital initiatives for a premier global maritime agency, Darren brings immeasurable experience to the table. “Living now in Houston with his family, Darren is co-founder of FuelTrust, a data science company with Greentech SaaS solutions.”

In his role, Darren will use his extensive network to bring together the ship-owning community, managers and operators to help progress the Club’s objectives to bring together members to network and proactively drive positive economic growth for their respective regions and the global industry.

The Global Maritime Club focuses on topical challenges and opportunities within the industry, including; how technology impacts the shipping space, the importance of digitalization, regulatory compliance and crew welfare among other topics.

As a private membership club, specially invited members can connect with one another through strategic networking opportunities, closed-door leadership roundtables and specially curated content. Together, the Ambassadors will work with members to tackle the challenges facing the industry, stimulate innovation and proactively drive positive economic growth.

Established in 2020, Global Maritime Club pulls on over 50 years of heritage from within the Seatrade brand and works closely in tandem with Seatrade Events, Seatrade Maritime News and the wider Informa Markets Maritime portfolio
