The return of SMM in Hamburg as full in-person event in Hamburg is just weeks about away.

SMM, which is also celebrating its 30th anniversary, is expected to feature around 2,000 exhibitors and 40,000 visitors, from 100 different countries. The event runs from 6 – 9 September.

The mere fact that SMM can take place as a live event again after the break imposed by the coronavirus is a highlight in and by itself,” said Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO, Hamburg Messe und Congress (HMC).

The conference programme for SMM includes gmec – the global maritime environmental congress – run in cooperation with Seatrade Maritime. It includes an NGO panel discussion which will be open to the public.

The one-day event on 7 September will also feature discussions on, the potential uses for nuclear energy in the maritime industry, hydrogen and shipping’s future energy mix, commercial challenges in navigating the zero-carbon transition, and nurturing green shipping innovation.

SMM 2022 is themed around “Driving the maritime transition” with an emphasis on interactive areas.

“We have consciously reduced some of the exhibition areas in favour of the Transition Stages to give participants more room to present their ideas and product novelties in an open forum,” explained Claus-Ulrich Selbach, Business Unit Director at HMC.

There will be three stages - The Green Transition Stage in Hall A4, The Digital Transition Stage in Hall B6, and The Cruise & Ferry Stage in Hall B5.
