Getting ready to "celebrate" 17 years working with TOC Americas during the pandemic

My beginnings with TOC Americas date back to 2003, a year that was a turning point for what was then the youngest session of TOC Events. Panama was chosen as the venue that year, running in parallel with already established events TOC Europe (since 1976), and TOC Asia – both in constant growth along with the boom of mega terminals.

A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then, and I have had the pleasure of collaborating with the event in many great locations including Panama, United States, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil. I have enjoyed immensely working with and learning from a very well-reputed team along with a countless number of colleagues, clients, and industry professionals that attend the event year-on-year.

TOC’s continuous evolution has helped mitigate the worst industry crisis in almost a century…

To organise a successful event is challenging – much more so if we add the fact that every year it takes place in a different geographical location.  Furthermore, focused on such a complex and constantly changing industry, it must also be dynamic.

During previous industry crisis, if TOC Events had decided to stay in its comfort zone as the leading events in port operations and not evolved to become the main port-centric maritime trade and supply chain event, I believe it would not have been able to overcome every crisis that the shipping industry has experienced these past decades.

And now, facing one of the worst shipping and non-shipping crisis we’ve seen, TOC has evolved yet again, and accelerated its transition to become a digital events leader in-line with the company’s 40-year trajectory. Developing “TOC Americas Virtual Expo” – the first-ever digital TOC Events conference, networking and exhibition initiative, means the industry doesn’t miss out on this crucial regional gathering that was originally scheduled to take place this October in Lima, Peru.

I am not sure if anyone was prepared for a worldwide pandemic or the ongoing challenges surrounding COVID-19, but at least I know that both the ports and the shipping industry, and “Tocsters” know how to deal with a crisis.

All the very best to you!

Víctor
