Taicang to work with Shanghai port on container terminal development

Taicang and Shanghai ports have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop the fourth phase container terminal at Taicang and to promote the integration within the Yangtze river delta.

According to the agreement Taicang port will strengthen the cooperation with Shanghai port to develop container shipping business, promote integration of resources and optimise the shipping system for Yangtze river region.

The fourth phase container terminal of Taicang port will build four 50,000 tonnes-class container berths, with a annual design capacity of 2m teu per year. Operations are expected to start in July this year.

Upon the completion of this terminal project, container handling volume of Taicang Port Shanghai Port Zhenghe Container Terminals Company, the joint venture established by the two ports, will have an annual handling capacity of 5m teu.

Taicang port, a major port located at the north side of Shanghai international shipping hub, posted 5.21m teu container throughput in 2020.
