China Merchants Energy Shipping has launched ita first ro-ro service for Guangzhou to Persian Gulf by its subsidiary, China Merchants Guangzhou Ro-Ro Shipping.

The maiden voyage is being undertaken by the 5,000 units of equivalent car carrier “Chang Tai Hong”, departing from Nansha, Guangzhou, carrying 3,200 vehicles manufactured by domestic car makers.

“Opening up of this ro-ro service will accelerate automobile transportation business development of the company and provide logistic supports to national automobile exports,” said CMES

In October, CMES disclosed its fleet development plan to upgrade some of its ro-ro vessels for foreign trading service. Chang Tai Hong is the first converted vessel from the plan.

The second vessel is ready for operation shortly and the third one is currently under conversion, which are expected to start service by the end of this year.

China Merchants (Guangzhou) Ro-Ro Shipping will continue to expand its ocean-going ro-ro fleet for international service through vessel purchase, construction and chartering. The company has already inked long-term cooperation agreements with overseas and domestic automobile engine suppliers to provide regular services for the market.
