The contract was won by Aker Solutions' subsidiary Aker Oilfield Services (AKOFS) and is for subsea intervention services for five years from the fourth quarter 2016, with a five-year optional extension.
A Norwegian yard will outfit the Aker Wayfarer as a subsea equipment support vessel (SESV), with the necessary machinery for installing and retrieving trees and modules on the sea floor.
The Aker Wayfarer will be following in the wake of the Skandi Santos, an SESV ship operated by (AKOFS) in Brazil for Petrobras since March 2010.
