In its first quarter results statement Seaspan revealed it had ordered five 11,000 teu boxships Hanjin Heavy Industries and Constructions’ Philippines yard, HHIC-PHILS, for $467.5m. The vessels are due to be delivered in 2017 for 17-year charters to undisclosed “leading operator”.
Meanwhile Seaspan also confirmed contracts for two 10,000 teu newbuildings with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding at a cost of $186m. The vessels are due to be delivered in 2017.
Seaspan reported net earnings of $21.3m in the first quarter of 2015 compared to $18m in the same period a year earlier.
