Adani planning six ports in India by 2015

Ahmedabad: India-based Adani Group is planning to establish up to six ports in the country before 2015 as it seeks to ramp up its cargo handling capacity. The group is looking at port locations in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Orissa and Tamil Nadu, in addition to its existing operations in the three ports of Gujarat state and one in Goa. If plans for the new port operations succeed, Adani could become the biggest cargo handling company in India with a capacity of 200m tonnes, up from the present 160m tonnes. Gautam Adani, chairman of the group, said the company is in talks with the respective state governments for setting up the new ports, according to local reports. "With this, we will have pan-India presence in ports on both western and eastern parts of the country," he said. [12/01/11]
