Hong Kong: Ship management group Anglo-Eastern has signed a contract with DNV SeaSkill for a full-scope verification of Anglo-Eastern's training activities. The verification would use a four-step process for quality assurance assessing the quality of the management system, simulators fit for purpose, proper course design, and the overall training delivery.
The only way to operate ships safely is by having well trained and competent seafarers, said Captain Pradeep Chawla, Anglo-Eastern's director for quality assurance and training. "This can only be achieved by continuously improving the overall quality of maritime training centres and improving the delivery standards of the teachers."
"The shipping industry in general is facing major challenges for training sufficient new seafarers. The number of vessels at sea will increase in the years to come. The technology for more advanced systems has been developed. This means that the demand for more and better qualified seafarers will increase," he added.
Captain Chawla concluded, "By bench-marking ourselves, going through this full-scope verification, we would like to get the assurance for ourselves and for our clients that our training centre is amongst the best in the industry."
Anglo- Eastern is based in Hong Kong, operates its own training centre in Mumbai and has a pool of more than 10,000 professional crew members. [12/05/07]
