Singapore: ASL Marine has had a good start to 2008, securing contracts worth S$96m (US $67.2m) for the construction of seven vessels. The company, which owns shipyards in Singapore, Batam (Indonesia) and Guangdong (China), will build two emergency response and rescue vessels, a water injection dredger and four rotor tugs for an existing European customer.

"These new vessels will be built at our Singapore shipyard," said ASL Marine chairman and md Ang Kok Tian, "The Group has been expanding and upgrading its shipyard capacity and capabilities to handle the building of more sophisticated vessels where requirement for quality, statutory compliance and safety are extremely stringent."
The emergency response and rescue vessels and the water injection dredger are slated for completion in 2009, while three rorotugs are to be completed in 2011 and the remaining vessel is expected to be finished in 2012. [16/01/08]
