Bintulu Port's expansion plans

Bintulu Port's expansion plans

Kuala Lumpur: Bintulu Port's expansion projects, worth some RM300m, will be completed between June and August this year, said Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd (BPHB) chief executive officer Mior Ahmad Baiti Mior Lub Ahmad.
The port's container handling capabilities will soar 400,000 teu to 650,000 teu a year.
"The expanded capacity can cater to requirements up to 2014. There is space for further expansion to increase capacity to one million teus a year,'' Mior Ahmad told reporters after BPHB's AGM at Kuching Hilton yesterday.
Mior Ahmad said 10 new storage tanks for palm oil now under construction would be ready in two months' time. The additional tanks will boost storage capacity by 26,000 tonnes from current 76,000 tonnes.
The port is also expanding its multipurpose terminal for dry bulk cargo and break bulk cargo as well as enlarging its timber yard, all as efforts to diversify away from LNG, a sector that is set to dwindle in the coming years.  [29/04/10]
