Mumbai: The bulker Khalijia has been found largely responsible for the collision with the MSC Chitra in Mumbai harbour that resulted in an 800 tonnes oil spill and hundreds of containers being lost overboard. According to local reports India's Director General of Shipping found the Khalijia had entered the channel at the wrong time at the wrong angle. The master of the Khalijia was found to have only contacted the captain of the MSC Chitra two minutes before the collision occurred. The port's vessels traffic monitoring system was also found to be wanting. The incident happening just under a month ago and the inquiry findings lay the ground for compensation claims against the Khalijia. [08/09/10]
