Seoul: South Korean shipbuilder C&Heavy Industries has secured a 443.3bn won ($474.6 million) order to build seven bulk ships from an unidentified European company.
C&Heavy told the Korea Exchange in a filing that the vessels will be delivered by March 2011. Based in Mopko, the yard delivered its first ships last year and is now firmly concentrating on its 83,000 dwt design that has proved tremendously popular with Greek owners. C&HI will diversify into other ship types after 2010, by which time it aims to be churning out 10 vessels a year. This latest deal is thought to be the yard's largest to date. [04/01/08]
