Lisbon: The directors of the port of Sines in Portugal expect to sign in April an agreement for China Shipping Container Lines to start using the port's facilities, local media in Macau report.
The Portuguese Secretary of State for Transport, Ana Paula Vitorino, is due to travel to China in April and a protocol is expected to be signed on sea transport between the two countries.
The visit is also expected to be when the business agreement between the Port of Sines and China Shipping Container Lines will be signed.
Maersk and Holland Mass already call at the deepwater port, which handles 43% of all Portuguese seaborne cargoes and the port is confident both China Shipping and Mediterranean Shipping Company will start calling this year. Come the end of 2008, PSA International will start operating the brand new Terminal XXI at Sines. [22/03/07]
