Chinese orders still flowing for MacGregor shipsets

Shanghai: Crisis, what crisis? Cargotec reports that its MacGREGOR business unit continues to contract complex multipurpose and heavy-lift ship projects in China. Orders have recently been received from China worth nearly EUR30m for 10 shipsets of cranes, hatch covers and fixed container fittings

Two series of multipurpose ships will extend MacGREGOR's success with cranes and hatch covers for this type of ship being built in China. Six of the ships are 9,500dwt multipurpose cargo and container vessels ordered by a European owner from Yangfan Group Co Ltd located on the Yangtze River Delta in Zhejiang Province. The other four are 18,000dwt multipurpose vessels ordered by an undisclosed European owner from Wuhu Xinlian Shipbuilding, also situated on the Yangtze River, but in Anhui Province.

For both series MacGREGOR is supplying hatch cover design and key components for high-stowing Foldtite-type weatherdeck hatch covers, and liftaway-type tweendeck covers. Also included in MacGREGOR's supply are fixed container securing equipment for deck and holds, hydraulic control systems and deck stanchions.

The six 9,500dwt ships on order at Yangfan Group will each carry two GLH heavy-lift cranes with an SWL range of between 200 tonnes at an outreach of 15mtr and 100 tonnes at 26mtr, with a 35 tonnes at 35mtr whip hoist.

The four 18,000dwt multipurpose vessels on order at Wuhu Xinlian will employ three MacGREGOR GL cranes each, with SWLs of between 80 tonnes at 19mtr outreach and 40 tonnes at 36mtr. Both series of ships will use MacGREGOR's CC2000 crane control system.

Ships are designed to carry containers in the holds and on hatch covers, bulk cargoes, heavy cargoes, steel coils, project cargo (large and heavy), timber and palletised cargo. The equipment will be delivered 2010 - 2011.  [19/12/08]
