London: Japanese ship classification society ClassNK has announced that it is to open three new dedicated offices in India next month. "In December we will be inaugurating our new offices in Kandal, Surat and Calcutta which will supplement our existing four offices in the country," said Dr M. Abdul Rahim, ClassNK assistant regional manager for Europe and Africa.
Speaking exclusively to Seatrade Asia Online at the sidelines of a press event in London, he added, "We have been experiencing an increase in survey volumes in India and realised that we needed to offer our customers a quicker response to maintain our high quality levels. India is one of the main areas we have ear marked for future expansion and we are keen to increase our presence there." Rahim added that the society has close ties with Indian shipyards, particularly ABG Shipyard, which operates two yards in the Surat area and a third in Dahej.
Other areas in ClassNK's sights are the European shipping hubs of Hamburg, Oslo and Denmark. It is also looking to target the lucrative offshore boom through new offices in Ghana. [17/11/09]
