Singapore: The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore has teamed up with DNV Clean Technology Centre to develop projects in the area of the maritime environment. The partnership agreement between MPA and DNV is designed to initiate and promote research, development and test-bedding projects in the areas of maritime environment and clean technologies. The agreement also part of developing Singapore as a maritime knowledge hub. "Protecting the marine environment is one of the key challenges facing the international shipping community, and the MPA-DNV MOU reflects the firm commitment of both our organisations to protect and safeguard the marine environment," said Khong Sheng Ping, deputy chief executive of the MPA. "Being the world's busiest port and a major flag registry, Singapore is strongly committed to environmentally-friendly shipping and port activities, especially on the prevention and reduction of pollution from ships and port activities." DNV's clean technology centre was established earlier this year. [07/06/10]
