Felixstowe gets Chinese cranes

Hong Kong: The Port of Felixstowe has received nine rubber-tyred gantry cranes from Shanghai's Zhenhua Port Machinery Company. The cranes were transported fully-erected in a nine-week voyage from China.

The new cranes are capaqble of lifting one container over five and can straddle seven rows of containers. The 16-wheel cranes can lift 40 tonnes and will be fully operational shortly. They will be deployed on Trinity Terminal, one of Europe's longest continuous quays, at nearly 3km in length.

The premier UK container port has taken 41 gantry cranes from ZPMC since 2002, bringing the total number to over 100 at the Hutchison Ports (UK) facility. (21/08/06)
