Germanischer Lloyd expands Mumbai presence

Mumbai: In order to meet the rising demand for classificatory services in India, GL has considerably increased its staff and has moved to a larger office in Mumbai. The new office is located in the emerging business district of Bandra, Kurla Complex, close to the old Mumbai Port and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) container terminal.

The German classification society states that it has seen great classification demand for multi purpose vessels, heavy lift vessels, platform supply vessels as well as tankers currently being built in the country.

"As a major, globally-active classification society we contribute to our clients' success with sophisticated and solution-oriented technical know-how", says Dr Volkmar Wasmansdorff, GL's head of region Asia/Pacific. "This has been successfully applied in all global maritime markets to the benefit of our clients. Considerably strengthening our presence in India is an important step in our strategy of supporting our Indian and international clients even better and faster in the future. We took concrete action to support Indian customers, establishing Station Goa in 2008. Further stations will follow this year."  [22/01/09]
