GTT has finished testing a new compact and easy to install LNG storage system which can be used for shipboard fuel tanks.

The new mark III membrane system comprises as single block using LNG Brick technology so that it can readily installed into the vessel superstructure.

GTT said tests by DongSung FineTec, which created a prototype, had demonstrated satisfactory performance of the new system.

Tanks will have a capacity of 1,000 to 3,000 cu m and can developed off site from the shipyard and then integrated into an LNG-powered vessel.

"We are pleased to be able to expand our range of membrane containment systems with this reliable, high performance solution. Given the current economic environment and LNG price levels, it seems to us to be an appropriate answer to address many of our customers’ concerns,” said Philippe Berterottière, chairman and ceo of GTT.

GTT is targeting the growth in LNG fuelled vessels and is providing the tanks for CMA CGM 22,000 teu, LNG-powered, containership newbuildings.
