Fire broke out on the Liberian-flagged vessel enroute from Singapore to Durban, 200 nm Northeast of Mauritius.
Meanwhile, all 17 crew members are reported safe, having been picked up by Hermann Buss-owned containership Donau Trader.
While the cause of the incident has yet to be ascertained, owner Leonhardt & Blumberg has pledged that an investigation will be conducted, with a superintendent reportedly en route to Mauritius.
It is the second major fire on a container vessel in the Indian Ocean this month after the fore section of the stricken boxship MOL Comfort caught fire and later sank while being towed to Oman.
