HK Sept box volumes fall at slower pace
Hong Kong: Hong Kong port's overall throughput for September fell at a slower pace to 1.95m teu from 1.99m teu previously, amounting to a 2.4% fall, although it was from a lower base the year before.

In August year-on-year throughput fell 9.2%. Previous year's throughput at the main Kwai Tsing terminals was so low
in 2011 that the year-on-year figure actually rose 7.3% to 1.47m teu from 1.37m teu previously.

Declines in the mid-stream volumes at the non-Kwai Tsing terminals however accelerated, falling 23.6% to 480,000 teu from 628,000 teu
previously.

The pattern was repeated in the year-to-date figures, with cumulative throughput falling 3.9% in the year to September to 13.19m teu.
