Mumbai: Four more Indian clinics have been approved by lead P&I insurer the UK Club to carry out pre-employment medical examination (PEME) checks on Indian seafarers. The four - three in Mumbai, managed by Dr Ranbir Singh, and the other in Chennai, run by Osler Diagnostics - brings the total number of clinics operating in the Club's PEME Programme to 11, including locations in Delhi and Goa. The Club says that the Programme has significantly reduced the incidence worldwide of crew members being taken ill on board with conditions existing at the outset of a voyage, and that shipowners subscribing to it are recruiting increasing numbers from India, the world's second largest crew supply country after the Philippines.
