Manila: The first Seafarers' Vetting Seminar held by Intertanko in the Philippines this week has been a success - attended by 1034 seafaring officers. The event, at the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy in Carmeltown, is part of the bid by Intertanko to focus on the human element by involving seafarers more, and by providing wider access for seafarers to general training and familiarisation.
The seminar, which was free of charge to Intertanko members, aimed at enhancing the seafarers' understanding of the vetting inspection system, and provided advice and guidance on how to prepare for an inspection and how to conduct an effective close-out meeting on completion.
They were also informed of the various vetting feedback systems that Intertanko has in place, such as its Terminal Vetting Database and Vetting Inspection Feedback Forms, which are said to "recognise the importance of seafarers' opinions and allow the seafarer's voice to be heard." [28/11/07]
