"K" Line becomes first Japanese line to order a ship for a year

Tokyo: "K" Line is ordering a 32,000 dwt  bulker from Hakodate Dock for delivery in the first half of 2011 becoming the first Japanese operator to order a newbuilding since the shipping market collapsed in the last year. The order also represents the first time "K" Line has ordered at Hakodate. The new ship will replace the 1996-built 24,000 dwt vessel it sold in July. Meanwhile, reports from Japan suggest NYK Global Bulk, the nation's largest handysize operator, is "poised" to enter the newbuild market as well as dipping into the sale and purchase market.
There was some rejoicing in the archipelago yesterday at news Japan had joined the likes of France and Germany in coming out of recession with latest economic data showing a very small rise in the national economy. [18/08/09]
