Seoul: The Korean Register of Shipping (KR) celebrated its 50th anniversary, debuting a book charting the company's history at a gala dinner last night in the South Korean capital.
Around 150 leading shipping executives flocked to the Lotte Hotel in central Seoul to toast the classification society which now has more than 40m gross tons on its books.
On Friday the society will break ground on a new hq to be built in Busan, marking a big shift from its current home in Daejon in the centre of the country.
Diversification and expansion are at the heart of chairman and ceo Oh Kong-Gyun's (pictured) mid-term management plans. Last year, the society had a turnover of approximately US$100m and its staff numbers reached 600.
'To achieve our mid-term plan - a 2013 turnover of $200m - we will have to have 1,000 staff,' Oh told SAO. [11/03/10]
