Malaysia looking to smooth ports customs process

Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, The director of Customs Department of Malaysia (KDRM), told local news agencies that the country is carrying out studies at the Malaysian ports of Johor, Pulau Pinang and Sarawak to review the current goods clearance process.

The studies, scheduled for completion next week, are expected to highlight methods to avoid congestion of goods at the port and speed up the customs process. "The handling of cargoes in several big ports has been increasing yearly and a proactive approach is required to ensure efficiency in their clearance," Ibrahim told reporters.  [23/03/07]
