MOL to split Asia-US W Coast PS3 service into two

MOL to split Asia-US W Coast PS3 service into two

Tokyo: Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has announced that, beginning mid-May, its the current PS3 service will be divided into two direct shuttle services linking China, Japan and Los Angeles on the US West Coast.

For Central China, where the market is experiencing significant growth, the Japan-based company will offer the PS3, a direct service between Ningbo, Shanghai and Los Angeles. The service, beginning May 10, will provide an 11-day direct route from Shanghai to Los Angeles. The vessels will call at: Ningbo (Sat) - Shanghai (Sun/Mon) - Los Angeles (Fri/Sun) - Ningbo (Sat).

The liner group will also launch a new Japan-America Shuttle service (JAS) in conjunction with Evergreen Lines, which it claims will "offer customers more port coverage in Japan than currently offered by other transpacific services and will also ensure a more reliable service that focuses solely on the Japan market".

The fixed-day weekly service will launch on May 14 and deploy four 2,800-3,000teu vessels on the 28 days rotation. The vessels will call at: Osaka (Wed) - Kobe (Thu) - Nagoya (Fri) - Shimizu (Sat) - Tokyo (Sun/Mon) - Los Angeles (Wed/Thu) - Osaka (Wed)

The exclusive focus on Japanese ports is expected to eliminate many of the operational risks inherent with more comprehensive services.  [03/04/08]
