New maritime awards reflect Singapore's maturing industry

New maritime awards reflect Singapore's maturing industry

Singapore:  Singapore's Maritime Week, due to be held later this month (25-29 September), will feature the third Singapore International Maritime Awards. These now encompass five new categories that 'reflect a certain maturing of the maritime industry in Singapore,' says MPA (Maritime and Port Authority) chief executive BG (NS) Tay Lim Heng.

The MPA will be presenting the following new awards to qualifying companies and organisations: the International Maritime Centre Award, recognising an individual or a company that has contributed to Singapore as an international maritime centre; the Bunker Award for the bunker supplier or tanker operator demonstrating outstanding commitment to quality standards, quantity assurances and customer satisfaction; the Outstanding R&D and Technology Award, recognising a company or research institution for outstanding innovation in the application or R&D of technology for the maritime industry.

The Excellence in Training Development Award will go to the company that has demonstrated commitment and excellence in training and developments, while the new Singapore Registry of Ships Owner of the Year Award will recognise an outstanding shipowner of quality Singapore-registered ships.

Meanwhile, Singapore also offers several other shipping incentives granted to qualified companies. These are Approved International Shipping Enterprise (AIS), Approved Shipping Logistics Enterprise (ASL) and Maritime Finance Incentive (MFI) Awards.  [06/09/06]
