Ningbo off to a flyer

Beijing: According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Communications, the completed container throughput of major Mainland China reached 16.0478 million teu in the first two months of 2007, a year-on-year increase of 30.2%.

Of the total, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port's completed container throughput stood at 1.3788m teu, rising an incredible 150.8% year-on-year. Ningbo merged with neighbouring Zhoushan archipelago last year and has for the past seven years been among the fastest growers in the container port sector worldwide. Significant new capacity has been added in the past 12 months to the port, which has long been dubbed China's finest deepwater port.  [28/03/07]
