Singapore: Neptune Orient Lines has introduced APL IndiaLinx, a container rail freight service connecting India's key commercial centres of New Delhi and Mumbai.
The service is intended to offer solutions to the problems of transportation congestion by providing reliable rail connections with container ships and by significantly shortening inland transit times. The service also provides first and last mile connectivity via trucking services to and from inland container depots.
While the initial focus will be on the New Delhi-Mumbai corridor, the Category 1 licence which NOL enjoys with jv partner Hindustan Infrastructure Projects and Engineering (HIPE) over a minimum 20-year period will enable other IndiaLinx rail services to be run throughout India. [05/06/07]
