Tokyo: Japanese shipping giant Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has announced that it is increasing its presence in Liverpool with a hike in staff to 30 employees and an expansion of its office space at the Port of Liverpool Building base. The move, expected to boost the port's importance in NYK's UK network, is in response to talks with The Mersey Partnership and Liverpool Vision which jointly works to promote the region and encourage development.
NYK Group Europe senior director John Webb told reporters, "We are delighted to be expanding our operations in a city and a building with such a fine maritime heritage. The Mersey Partnership and Liverpool Vision have provided valuable support to us throughout the project, ensuring we have been able to consolidate our presence in Liverpool." [17/02/10]
