Singapore: The NYK Shipmanagement Training Centre was jointly declared open this week by NYK president Koji Miyahara (pictured left) and Raymond Lim, Singapore's minister for transport and second minister of foreign affairs (right). (NYKSM) is a Singapore-based wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), headed by chairman and ceo Capt T Ishida.
As previously reported, the training center is equipped with state-of-the-art simulators for carrying out training specific to particular ships, and will be used by about 400 NYK senior officers each year, helping the Group prepare for the challenge of operating a fleet of 930 vessels by 2010.
Apart from this centre, NYK continues to sponsor the training of cadets in China, Croatia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Romania, and Russia. The Group says that by investing in human resources, it hopes to provide a first-class service to its customers and fulfill its corporate social responsibility. [29/11/06]
