RINA expands Chinese services

RINA expands Chinese services

Shanghai: Classification society RINA has opened a major new office in Shanghai, China, and is set to expand activity and staffing there by over 30% during 2008. The expanded office will house a Plan Approval Centre, intended to give rapid local service to Chinese shipyards, and provide a base for RINA's certification activities such as conformity assessment in the car and truck, machinery, food and textile businesses.

RINA also plans to open a survey office in Dalian and set up a Chinese Technical Advisory Committee next year to facilitate communication and interfacing with the Chinese maritime cluster.

RINA ceo Ugo Salerno says, "Our investment in China is a recognition of the importance of the Chinese shipbuilding market and its rapid growth, which requires close support from classification societies. We are also seeing increased demand for our verification services across a wide range of industries, and this expanded office will provide us the platform to meet that demand."

RINA, which has ninety offices in over thirty countries, has a classed fleet of over 20 million gt in addition to over 1,000 yachts and 300 special units (military ships, coast guard, police and fire brigade crafts).  [27/11/07]
