Scan-Trans splits from UAE partner

Dubai: There's been an amicable parting of the ways between Scan-Trans Holding A/S of Denmark and the Kellett & Singleton Group of Dubai controlled by entrepreneur and broker Rohan Shetty (pictured).

The two formerly ran Dubai-based chartering and broking firm Scan-Trans Middle East & South Asia Holding Limited (Scan-Trans ME), but Scan-Trans' two-thirds stake has been bought out by its local partner. The company has relaunched under new name Kellett & Singleton Chartering (KASCHART) and will continue serving the coaster-to-panamax dry bulk, project and heavylift market in the region

At the same time, Scan-Trans has set up Scan-Trans Shipping DMCC at Jumeirah Lake Towers in Dubai where it says it will focus on its core business of project cargo and heavylift shipping, servicing customers with its multipurpose fleet of 30 vessels.

"Even as separate entities, we will continue to work together for mutual business benefit," said Shetty, co-founder and erstwhile md of Scan-Trans ME. Kellett & Singleton will still handle port agency for Scan-Trans in the UAE while heavylift vessels operated by its subsidiary SynerShip Lines will continue to work under a commercial Joint Operation Agreement with Scan-Trans Group.

"Going forward, the rebranded entity (KASCHART) will seek to expand its presence in the regional and South Asian markets to consolidate presence and to leverage growth from the continuing boom in the global shipping industry," Shetty added. Period chartering of vessels and acquisisition of secondhand tonnage and even newbuilds are all envisaged.  [09/07/08]
