SCI plans to acquire yard share

Mumbai: State-run Shipping Corp of India (SCI) expects to embark on inspection to acquire a minority stake of 15% in any of the four Indian shipbuilders that had submitted an expression of interest, a top official said. The four yards include ABG Shipyard, Bharati Shipyard, Pipavav Shipyard and unlisted Goodearth, S. Hajara, Chairman of SCI said.
In addition, SCI has signed an agreement to set up a joint venture with state-run Coal India to transport thermal coal. The joint venture is expected to be established this year. Hajara said. [11/01/11]
