Shanghai Waigaoqiao in deal to build four capesizes
China-based Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has signed a contract with Zhejing Herun Group for the construction of four 180,000 dwt dry bulk carriers.

The newbuildings carry a price tag of $54m each, and they are scheduled to be delivered in 2016.

Zhejiang Herun Group, a multi-sector enterprise with businesses in grain processing, logistics, energy storage and trading, property development, shipbuilding and repair and travel, has plans to build up a shipping fleet with a total capacity of 4m dwt for its grain transportation.

“The capacity of our bulk vessel ranges from 70,000-80,000 dwt each. With the new 180,000 dwt bulker, we expect to significantly increase our cargo carrying capacity and lower our operating costs,” Zhang Yong, assistant to ceo of Zhejiang Herun Group, told reporters.
