Stream Tankers books five chemical tankers at Japanese yard
Norway-based Stream Tankers has ordered up to five 19,900 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers from Japanese yard Fukuoka Shipbuilding Co.

The order for the eco-design chemical tankers is for two firm vessels and an additional three options. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Stream Tankers, 60% owned by Utkilen, will take delivery of the pair of new chemical tankers in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Stream Tankers said the vessels will be of the new Fukuoka/Shitanoe eco-design hulls and combined with modern efficient engines will give “substantial fuel reductions”.

Stream Tankers currently owns two 19,900 dwt chemical tankers built at Fukuoka and Shitanoe shipyards in Japan in 2008 and 2010. The vessels are currently out on time-charter to one of the major global chemical tanker operators.
