Tasik Subsea vessel the Southern Star has started a new charter in Malaysia after Fugro returned its 22 months into a six year charter.

The Southern Star has gone on hire to Shelf Subsea Solutions Pte Ltd for shutdown work with Petronas Carigali for shutdown work offshore Sarawak, East Malaysia.

The planned shutdown activities and flowline installations are scheduled to take a number of weeks, and will be followed by a programme of other scheduled projects, Tasik Subsea said.

The company described the return of the vessel by Fugro 22 months into a six year charter as “surprising”.

John Giddens, ceo of Tasik Subsea, was unhappy about the condition of the vessel on its return and the company is now taking legal action issuing a Notice of Defamation against Fugro over statements it made about the Southern Star.

Giddens is upbeat though about the prospects for the Southern Star. “Our vessel has a number of exciting new projects on the horizon from blue-chip clients looking to charter a ship that embodies the outstanding qualities of the Southern Star,” he said.
