Taipei: Bluesky LNG Corp, a subsidiary of Taiwan Maritime Transport (TMT), is planning to convert a secondhand LNG carrier into a floating LNG storage unit. Bluesky purchased a 50,240-cu m LNG carrier built in 1971, the Descartes, from Gaz de France (GDF) in August 2007.
TNT founded Bluesky by separating its LNG carrier division in 2005. Bluesky currently owns three LNG carriers, including the one it bought from GDF. The other two are the 1965-built 25,550 cu m Cinderella, the world's oldest LNG carrier, which was purchased in 2004, and the 145,000 cu m Bluesky, which was completed in 2006 at South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).
Furthermore, Bluesky has two LNG carrier newbuildings on order at DSME for a 166,000 cu m ship for delivery in January 2010 and a 171,800 cu m ship for delivery in August 2010. [31/12/07]
