Kong Cho Ha, chairman of Port Klang Authority, was quoted as saying that there were no casualties and the situation is now under control. An investigation would be carried out into the accident.

The ships involved were the 8,714-teu San Felipe, managed by Bernhard Schulte for Ship Finance International (SFI) and the 13,470-teu Al Riffa operated by United Arab Shipping Co (UASC).

The Al Riffa had been towed away from the wharf to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the wharf, while the San Felipe was left on the wharf as the fire was manageable and quickly extinguished, local media reported.

Several tug boats were sent to the scene to put out the fire using seawater, according to a spokesman from Port Klang Fire and Rescue Services Department.
