The DP3-capable specialised vessel will be built at Sinopacific’s Ningbo yard and slated for delivery in 2016.
The 14,000-dwt vessel will be suitable for installation of a wide range of rock sizes through a fall pipe or a tremie pipe at the side of the vessel. It can operate in water depths of more than 600 metres and accommodate 60 people.
In close cooperation with the Ulstein Group, special attention was paid during the design phase to the energy efficiency of the bow and hull, according to Van Oord.
At present, Van Oord has deployed three subsea rock installation vessels.
“This investment forms part of the Van Oord strategy to offer a complete service to its worldwide clients as specialised engineering, procurement and construction contractor,” Van Oord said.
