Varun Shipping acquires India's largest AHTS vessel

Mumbai: Varun Shipping has taken delivery of a 16,085 BHP Anchor Handling and Towing Supply Vessel (AHTS) which it claims is the largest and most powerful of its kind in the Indian fleet. The vessel will cater to deep sea oil exploration activity in areas like North Sea, KG basin and Atlantic Ocean off the coasts of Nigeria, Brazil and Mexico.

The purchase was financed partly out of company's internal resources and partly out of long term loans from State Bank of India and Bank of India, London.

The new AHTS increases the company's owned fleet to 21 vessels comprising of 12 LPG carriers, three double hull Aframax crude tankers, five anchor handling towing and supply vessels and one product tanker.  [28/03/08]
