Xinle Shipbuilding and Cosco Dalian to build two LNG carriers

Xinle Shipbuilding and Cosco Dalian to build two LNG carriers
Chinese yards Ningbo Xinle Shipbuilding Group Co and Cosco (Dalian) Shipyard have clinched deals to each build one LNG carrier for two different Chinese owners.

The owners of the new LNG carriers are Zhejiang Yuanhe Ocean Shipping Company and Dalian Inteh Group Co, according to engine manufacturer Wartsila, which is the supplier of the ships'dual-fuel engines and propulsion systems.

Wartsila said deliveries of its engine and propulsion equipment are scheduled in 2014 and the newbuildings will be launched approximately one year later.

While Cosco (Dalian) Shipyard had previously built LNG carriers, the latest deal could be the first for Ningbo Xinle Shipbuilding.

The LNG carriers will operate mainly in Chinese waters, and will transport LNG between terminals and to other ships.

“Chinese owners are beginning to invest significantly in LNG carriers powered by dual-fuel engines, and these latest orders will add impetus to the market, both in China and globally,”said Aaron Bresnahan, vice president sales, Wartsila Ship Power.
