Yangzijiang bags 13 shipbuilding orders in Q4 2014
Privately-owned Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has announced that it entered into 13 shipbuilding orders, including options, in the last quarter of 2014 with a total contract value of $510m.

The 13 shipbuilding orders included nine effective orders worth $388m and four options worth $122m. The nine effective orders comprised of two 10,000 teu containerships exercised from existing options, four 36,500 dwt bulkers, two 2,700 boxships and one 64,000 dwt bulker.

The four options consisted of two 36,500 dwt bulkers and two 2,700 teu boxships.

Total order wins for Yangzijiang in 2014 stood at 41 vessels worth $1.8bn, of which $1.4bn worth of contracts were clinched in the first half of the year.

“Shipbuilding industry in China recovered strongly in the early part of 2014, before it started to lose momentum in the second half year,” commented Ren Yuanlin, executive chairman of Yangzijiang.

Ren added that the yard has now turned its focus on constructing the larger containerships of 10,000 teu and above, which offer “outstanding cost efficiency in shipping”.

“They will continue to gain attention from shipowners, and contribute to the future growth of the group,” Ren said.
